What I Think About National Foundation Day: Learning From History, Not Just About It

I would like to sincerely celebrate this holiday, which exists to "commemorate the founding of the nation and cultivate a love for one's country."

When I was in middle school, I was shocked to learn that when memorizing the names of the months, JULY was named after Caesar's ambition for glory, followed by Augustus forcing AUGUST in after it. Later, as I developed a feel for European languages, I came to understand that the "SEPT" in September means 7, and the "OCT" in October means 8, like the octopus with its eight legs — so those two months had simply been pushed back by shifting July and August in ahead of them!
