Sound Environment Declaration

Sound Environment Declaration

Chapter 1

Sound Was Always Part of Our Environment

Sound was, from the beginning, simply there.

At some point, our lives became filled with directional, artificial sounds and waves.

Television, computers, smartphones, appliances, air conditioning, traffic. Small but unceasing sounds that make us aware of where they originate.

We are surrounded by these sounds all day long.

It should be quiet, and yet something never quite settles. The sound in that room — from where, and in what way, does it reach you? Have you ever stopped to notice?

Standing in a forest, we are enveloped by sound.

The birdsong, the wind, the rustle of leaves — none of it comes forcefully from a single direction.

Sound simply exists, all around us.

Before we know it, we dissolve into the space, and with the flow of that place we come to move at the same pace.

Chapter 2

We Define the Concept of 'Sound Environment'

Sound can be gentler. Sound can be freer. Sound can be something that stays close to how we live.

We believe sound should not be something forced upon listeners, but something that elevates the quality of a space, returning sound to its natural, human-centered form.

[Sound Environment — Official Definition]

Sound Environment refers to a concept that goes beyond volume, audio quality, and the presence or absence of music — encompassing how sound spreads, its directionality, persistence, and integration into space, including the very nature of how sound exists — to describe the overall 'quality of sound' within a space.

We approach sound not as 'information' or 'stimulation,' but as an environmental factor — like light or air — whose quality can be designed. We call this 'Sound Environment Design.'

Chapter 3

The Concept of 'Sound Air Conditioning'

Sound spreads uniformly through space, as in nature, harmonizing the space itself

In a well-balanced space, when you stop noticing where sound comes from and feel enveloped, sound stops being something you 'listen to' and becomes part of the space.

A time arises in which you need not follow where the sound comes from — you can simply be within it. And the flow of time softens, just a little.

We call this state 'Sound Air Conditioning.'

[Sound Air Conditioning — Official Definition]

Sound Air Conditioning treats sound not as something to be 'played,' but as an environmental factor — like temperature and humidity — that shapes the quality of a space. By designing how sound spreads and its directionality in a form that stays close to people, it seeks to create a state in which people can be in the same space as sound without strain — a philosophy of Sound Environment Design.

This is not about raising or lowering volume, nor about playing background music. We use this expression to mean harmonizing the very 'nature of how sound exists.'

Chapter 4

Our Mission

To create a world where people feel 'I'm glad to be alive' and 'I can see a future full of dreams.'

To create a world where people breathe comfortably within sound.

For homes — a sound environment that stays close to the family's hours together.

For healthcare facilities — a sound environment where time passes gently.

For hotels — a sound environment that quietly settles the hours before sleep.

For offices — a sound environment that stays behind your thinking.

Since its founding in 2000, M's system has spent over 25 years exclusively dedicated to creating better ways for sound to exist.

What we wish to share here is a social question: 'Could transforming the sound environment of cities make people's lives richer?'
