Concept
In January 2004, the first 'Concert Without Performers' began in a small office in Kunitachi, Tokyo. No performers on stage. Just a single wave-motion speaker — 21cm in diameter, 40cm long — filling the stage with music.
Even without performers, the sense of presence is as if they were right there. Sound radiating 360 degrees from the wave-motion speaker envelops the entire hall. The audience experiences music as if dissolving into it, without ever sensing the 'direction' of sound.
It may be close to the sensation of being enveloped by natural sounds in a forest. From that small office, the concerts grew to premier venues like Suntory Hall and Tokyo International Forum, with over 400 performances nationwide.
