This is the M's System main store Showroom located in Shintomi-cho, Chuo Ward.
Some visitors may feel that its atmosphere is quite removed from what's considered "contemporary."
Some are surprised, saying "There are so many CDs here."
We actually have many, many more CDs.
However, in terms of the number of songs, the smartphones you all carry can access virtually infinite software, so the number of CDs is hardly something to boast about.
The three photographs hanging on the wall show the Bill Evans Trio relaxing at New York's live venue Village Vanguard, and Miles Davis.
For visitors who come for a listening session, we often play "My Foolish Heart," which is the first track on the album "Waltz for Debby" recorded more than 60 years ago. (Since this is a jazz masterpiece, many visitors have already listened to it thoroughly.) Everyone is amazed.
"Which speaker is actually playing? What? The piano sounds like it's coming from over there," they say, pointing to the large speaker on the right, or "The cymbal sound being brushed is incredibly lifelike, but what on earth?" Some even stand up and approach the large speaker on the left to locate the source of the sound.
These are my secret moments of joy.
Well, the joy isn't just momentary— it continues much longer.
Even when I guide customers away from directly in front of the speakers, all the way back to near the entrance of the listening room, the piano's position, and where the drum set is relative to that piano, can be clearly discerned.
Are there any other places where you can stand up from the sofa or chair in a speaker listening room and walk around freely?
The usual outcome is that just showing signs of standing up gets your shoulder pressed down, with strong recommendations that "this is the best place to listen."
In contrast, in M's System's listening room, customers forget to return to the sofa and move to various locations while confirming the sound and the positions of instruments, enjoying this new experience.
This scene (the customers' movement) is truly delightful to watch.
