What is a daily life with sound in harmony? The role of sound in morning, afternoon, and evening hours
The impact that sound has on our lives is not constant throughout the day.
Morning, afternoon, evening.
Our physical and mental states differ greatly during each of these time periods.
Therefore, sound that enhances QOL (Quality of Life) should not play the same role all day long, but rather be sound that accompanies the flow of time.
Morning──Sound that doesn't disturb awakening
The morning body is in a very delicate state, transitioning from sleep to wakefulness.
When sounds that are too strong or have clear directionality enter during this time, the body tends to tense up suddenly, and breathing becomes shallow.
Sound that enhances QOL does not aim to make you "listen" to something in the morning.
It maintains the transparency of the space and supports a state where breathing naturally deepens.
Like bird songs or wind sounds that exist as if dissolved into the space, it's important that sound doesn't come forward too much and gently fills the entire room.
In such sound, awakening is gentle, thoughts arise quietly, and the day's start is made without strain.
Afternoon──Sound that doesn't hinder concentration
Daytime requires activity and concentration.
However, concentration doesn't equal silence.
Rather, complete silence can sharpen the senses too much, making one hypersensitive to small stimuli.
In an environment with high QOL, sound exists as a "background."
A state where music or environmental sounds spread as spatial depth rather than asserting themselves from a specific point.
At this time, people can concentrate on their work or thoughts without consciously chasing after the sound.
As a result, they tire less easily and concentration is less likely to break.
By having sound in harmony, the "density" of daytime hours increases.
Evening──Sound that releases tension
Evening is the time of day when we are most susceptible to the influence of sound.
For the body to release the tension accumulated during the day, sound also needs not to interfere with this process.
Sharp sounds, information-heavy sounds, and strongly directional sounds pull the brain back into a state of wakefulness.
Sound that enhances QOL gradually releases its "presence" toward evening.
A sense of distance where you don't even notice whether sound exists or not.
Within this, breathing naturally deepens and the body transitions into rest mode.
Preparation for sleep is arranged without strain.
What remains unchanged throughout the day
The role of sound changes from morning to afternoon to evening.
However, what's common to Sound Environments with high QOL is that sound doesn't become the protagonist.
Sound supports the space, accompanies people's states, and doesn't intervene more than necessary.
As a result, breathing becomes regulated, fatigue is reduced, and sleep comes more easily.
Speakers that improve QOL can be said to be presences that don't disturb life's rhythm, beyond the quality of sound itself.
When sound is in harmony, the day quietly changes.
Nothing changes dramatically. However,
"Today was comfortable"
"Before I knew it, it was relaxing"
Such realizations accumulate.
That is, I believe, the most certain value that sound brings to daily life.
