Music felt with the whole body, rather than just heard with the ears.
The NHK program "Tamori & Shinya Yamanaka's!? Episode 3: Why Do Humans Love Music?" provided extremely insightful content for us at M's System.
The program explored the essence of "music" from multiple perspectives, including the relationship between the lives and music of forest peoples in Africa, Tamori's dedication to records, and the connection between dementia and music.
The conclusion they ultimately reached was:
"Humans derive pleasure from music not just by hearing it with their ears, but by 'feeling' it with their entire body."
We couldn't help but deeply nod in agreement with these words.
The program also touched on the difference between music heard through earphones and the sound from speakers resonating in space.
Frequency ranges that are "not audible" through earphones can certainly be "felt" through speakers.
In other words, we are "feeling" frequencies and changes in air vibrations that our ears cannot fully capture, through our skin and body.
This is precisely the core of the concept that M's System has advocated: the "Sound Air Conditioner" = the sonic air environment itself.
Sound truly becomes genuine pleasure when we are "enveloped" by it.
Most conventional speakers have strong "directivity," emitting sound as a "point."
This limits the listening position (where one should listen) and tends to narrow the area where music "reaches."
In contrast, M's System speakers are "omnidirectional."
Sound spreads not only front to back and left to right, but also up and down, filling the entire space.
It's like being enveloped within the sound itself.
A profound experience awaits where not just the ears, but the skin, internal organs, and nervous system all relax and become one with the music.
What the "experience of being enveloped in sound" brings:
・Heart rate becomes peacefully regulated
・Breathing becomes deeper
・The brain relaxes and creativity is enhanced
・Easier entry into deep sleep
These are all physiological changes brought about by the sensation of "sound touching the body."
In other words, music is simultaneously "entertainment to be heard" and a tool with "the power to harmonize space."
Why not reconsider speakers in order to truly "feel" music?
If you truly love music and want to experience it more deeply, please turn your attention (?) not just to "what music to listen to" but also to "what kind of sound to feel it with."
The emotion of music resides not only in the songs themselves, but also in the "resonance of sound" itself.
The omnidirectional, space-enveloping sound created by M's System wave-motion speakers will draw your entire body into the music.
I thought that perhaps humans love music because they want to "touch sound."
While we listen to sound with our ears, we simultaneously touch sound with our hearts and are embraced by sound with our bodies.
It's like the memory of being held in a mother's arms listening to a lullaby, recorded together with a sense of security.
Music is something to be "felt."
Why not return to that fundamental principle once more?
It's already here.
Speakers that are felt with the whole body: M's System.
